Dr Rod Syme BSc(Hons), PhD, FNZIP, ONZM

Rod is Deputy Chairperson and has represented the Royal Society of New Zealand, Canterbury Branch on the Canterbury Museum Trust Board since February 2005. Rod was born in Hawera and studied condensed matter physics at the University of Canterbury. Following postdoctoral research at Iowa State University, he lectured in physics at Canterbury until retirement in 2004. His research interest is laser spectroscopy. He was Head of Department Physics and Astronomy from 1989 to 1997. Rod has international experience in Track and Field officiating at Olympic, World Championship and Commonwealth Games level.
