As part of the Christchurch Arts Festival 2009, contemporary artists draw inspiration from the Museum's bird collection and address issues of extinction, conservation, collecting and preservation. Works from artists including Hannah and Aaron Beehre, Wayne Youle, Hamish Palmer, Ronnie van Hout and Bill Hammond are displayed alongside original ornithological specimens.
