CERA Approves Opening of Canterbury Museum

Posted: 6 September 2011

Canterbury Museum sustained minor damage as a result of the recent earthquakes that have occurred in Canterbury.

The Museum buildings have been inspected and checked against Christchurch City Council and Building Act requirements. Building repairs have been undertaken where required in accordance with current Christchurch City Council standards. Christchurch City Council has reviewed and approved the building repairs; and issued a Certificate for Public Use required for the Museum to re-open to the public.

The grounds around the Museum have also been inspected for liquefaction and lateral spreading. No evidence of liquefaction or lateral spreading has been observed in these areas.

The repaired buildings comply with Christchurch City Council’s Earthquake Prone Dangerous and Insanitary Buildings Policy 2010; and CERA have approved re-occupancy of the Museum.
