Setting up House

The comforts of home were not so easy for our early settler families, they brought what they could from their homeland and developed new technologies to improve their daily life. Step back in time to explore household items and how they were used and by whom.

By accessing our hands-on collection of 19th century household items, students will be able to examine how things were different for the early Christchurch settlers and gain an understanding of the difficulties and challenges that had to be overcome to establish a successful household.
