Remembering the First World War
Developed as part of the Canterbury 100 collaborative project Canterbury Stories: Remembering the First World War is currently on display at the Air Force Museum of New Zealand in Wigram, Christchurch.
The exhibition provides a Canterbury-focused insight into the First World War through the personal stories of those who experienced it – not only the soldiers and nurses on the front line but also the men, women and children who remained on the ‘Home Front’.
The displays are refreshed regularly, offering new information on different facets of the wartime experience. Several well-known local celebrities have also shared their family’s wartime experiences. Cantabrians can connect with their First World War heritage by sharing their family’s wartime experiences through stories, photographs and objects on the Canterbury 100 website.
Canterbury 100 is a collaboration between a number of Canterbury organisations including Canterbury Museum.
