Julia will provide an overview of the story of Chinese endeavour on the West Coast from the time of their arrival in Hokitika in 1867. She will then share the stories of some interesting individuals before touching on the topic of Chinese-European marriages on the West Coast.
Julia has been researching stories about the Chinese experience in both Otago and the West Coast since the late 1990s and has published a book on the West Coast Chinese titled Golden Prospects. She now hopes to find out more about the story of the Chinese in Christchurch.
