Name Our Dogs
Our Antarctic dogs need names! Help us name the two model dogs in our new exhibition Dogs in Antarctica: Tales from the Pack and you could win great prizes.
Name a model Antarctic dog and you could win a prize.
The two winning names will be displayed on the model dogs in the exhibition, and win a $50 Prezzie card and the book Dogs of the Vastness, donated by the New Zealand Antarctic Society.
Real-life sledge dogs were given a variety of names for different reasons. Many dogs were given people’s names. Toby was named in honour of Scott Base surveyor Jim Tobin and Jan was named after an expedition member’s daughter. Some dogs had Russian names such as Stareek which means old man. Other dogs were given funny names like Jim Fluff, Satan and Wallaby.
The competition is open to children under 15 years and closes at 5.30 pm on Sunday 14 October 2018. To enter, visit Tales from the Pack and drop a form in the entry box there.
