The Museum Egg Hunt

This exhibition is no longer on display at the Museum.

Eggs laid by the South Island giant moa could weigh as much as 4 kg, about as heavy as the family cat. Discover more about New Zealand’s largest extinct flightless bird at the Museum and while you’re here enter our fun family competition The Museum Egg Hunt.

You’ll find a real moa egg on display in the Māori Gallery on Level 1. Then search the Museum galleries to find hidden fake moa eggs – record your findings on an entry form and enter the competition. The first correct entry form drawn will win a prize from the Museum Store.
