Pūtaringamotu Pūtaringamotu (Riccarton Bush) 

Survival of the fittest? Or survival of the tallest? Explore how this unique tract of living lowland kahikatea forest has survived within the city of Christchurch.

This programme allows students to examine our unique native flora and fauna while exploring a truly remarkable part of our city. Students will also look at the forest ecosystem, the human impact on this environment and the construction of the predator fence.

Availability: Term One and Term Four from 2026

  • Identify native trees and birds
  • Discover traditional Māori use of plants
  • Discuss the protection of Pūtaringamotu (Riccarton Bush) for future generations.
