Geotge Hook

George’s interests span the fields of art history, environmental history and the history of science.

In recent years, he has been researching and publishing on the history of Julius von Haast’s exploration, sketching and mapping of the topography, geology and glaciology of the Southern Alps, which has often involved fieldwork. 

George is also involved in contributing to the Haast Correspondence project, publishing edited, annotated and illustrated editions of the letters of leading nineteenth-century scientists to Haast.
