Leeston Bioblitz

Join Canterbury Museum bug expert Johnathon Ridden on a special search for living creatures.

An Alexander Ground Beetle specimen from Canterbury Museum's collection.

Johnathon, who is our Associate Curator Natural History, is leading a bioblitz in Leeston on Friday. Volunteers can join him on the bioblitz, which aims to locate and identify every organism in an outdoor area, including plants, animals, fungi and invertebrates.

Volunteers can use the iNaturalist app on their smartphones during the bioblitz. The app can be used to photograph an organism, which can then be remotely identified by an expert.

The bioblitz begins at 1.30 pm on Friday and is expected to take about two hours. Volunteers can meet at Leeston Library for the start of the bioblitz.
